Job Description

Federal Hill Consulting is looking for a contract Technical Writer to work in Washington, DC.

The Technical Writer will be responsible for working closely with IT Subject Matter Experts (SME) to provide technical writing support for a variety of technical documents such as How-to Procedures, Standards, Guidelines, SOPs, etc. The ideal candidate will be very detailed oriented and efficient at transforming raw technical materials and screenshots into polished documents that will be referenced for cross-training and repeated procedure execution. This position is slated for 6 months of work.

Key responsibilities of the Technical Writer will include, but are not limited to:  

  • Conducting IT SME interviews on a variety of technical procedures to capture procedure details, screenshots, and more
  • Write, edit, format and review technical documents
  • Clearly and concisely develop technical procedure documents based on raw input provided by technical SMEs
  • Work directly with IT SMEs to complete document reviews and edits
  • Balance and prioritize schedule across multiple procedure needs and IT SMEs


  • 3+ years professional and relevant technical writing experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Primarily Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Proficiency with general computer graphics tools to depict workflows (e.g. PowerPoint and Visio)
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently against a project schedule and milestones
  • Ability to complete Quality Assurance (QA) checks against technical procedure documents
  • Experience with Skype highly desired
